The Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship program is specifically designed for eligible Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents in becoming permanent residents of Canada. This is a draw-based program and usually opens once a year.
Many have been waiting for new details on the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship program intake for 2022, and the wait is finally over. On October 11, 2022, it was announced that 23,100 invitations to apply will be sent to potential sponsors who submitted their interest to sponsor in 2020 and are still in the pool. IRCC’s goal is to accept 15,000 applications.
There are currently 155,313 potential sponsors in the pool who all submitted their interest to sponsor forms in 2020. If you are one of these potential sponsors in the pool of 2020, make sure to check your email inbox regularly, as invitations are expected to be sent within the next two weeks.
If you receive your invitation to apply, you must submit two applications: one for becoming a sponsor and the other for your parents’ or grandparents’ permanent residency. These applications must be submitted together at the same time by 11:59 PM EST, December 24, 2022.
NOTE: Keep in mind that IRCC will send the invitations to apply to those who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020. Do not file an application if you are not invited to apply, or your application will get rejected, and the sponsor application fee might not be refunded.
Moreover, since only half of the submitted applications will be accepted, we strongly recommend you seek professional assistance from an immigration professional for preparing and submitting your application. If you have been invited to apply, our team at Moshiri Immigration can assist you with preparing the required documents and guide you through the steps of this application.
